Get some rest….cleanse for a day!!!

Sunday is a day of rest, right? Hee hee hee, ha ha ha, ho ho ho –

OK, ok, when you are done laughing…

If you find it ridiculous to think about taking a whole day off to get some R&R, then it is important to know there are ways to give your body a rest without completely opting out of your busy life.


The cleanse for a day is a perfect example.


Before you start laughing (or crying) again, let me explain! My definition of cleansing is giving your body a rest from the foods that make it work extra hard, the ones that tend to throw you off balance hormonally.


Sugar is one of those “foods”, as well as refined and processed fast foods, gluten, animal foods, alcohol etc… When you cleanse for a day, you can take a rest from all of them, or just one food, like gluten, or dairy.


So, a one day cleanse is taking a day of rest for your body, simple! And you can do it without interrupting all the other things you need to do.


Plus, when you eat only nutrient rich plant foods for even one day, you are super-nourishing yourself on a cellular level. Even if everything else in your life stays the same, you will feel the difference!


And your body and mind will thank you for it.

There are lots of ways to do it:

1. Drink rich vegetable or healing bone broths with a bit of miso or sea salt. You can drink just broth for the day, or you can have it along with plant rich meals.

2. Have a smoothie day – quick and easy, just replace each meal with a super green smoothie with plenty of nuts and seeds and/or a plant based protein powder.

3. Have a soup day – hearty vegetable and bean soups are delicious and sustaining, and you can often get fresh pre-made at health food stores.

4. Do a combo: smoothie for breakfast, salad for lunch, and soup for dinner. Broth in between.


Two things I don’t recommend for a one day cleanse – water or juice only fasts. For women, blood sugar and stress hormones are intimately linked, and these types of fasts can cause more harm than good if you don’t have the guidance of a health professional.


Don’t forget the KISS rule – keep it super simple!


Once you cleanse for a day a couple of times, you will find you are thinking less about food, and more about what to do with all the energy you have. Lovely.
