Is your shampoo making you fat?

Your favorite luscious foaming “white-ginger-tea-rose” body soap, and creamy “dessert-rain-flower” body lotion may feel like nirvana wafting into your nostrils in the morning or after a long butt-kicking day, but, they could be sabotaging your efforts to lose weight and feel great in your body.

You may have heard that your skin is actually your biggest organ, and that it absorbs what you put on it. We usually don’t think about that when we wash our hair or slather on moisturizers, but those seemingly benign and comforting products contain a host of chemical ingredients that can actually contribute to weight gain, thyroid disorders, and even cancer.

Unfortunately what makes these products smell so dazzingly good, the “fragrance” you see on the ingredient list, is a major obesogen* called a phthalate.Phthalates are plasticizers that help to hold the scent on your skin and hair for a long time.

1. fragrance free, or made with only pure essential oils
2. paraben free
3. SLS, or SLE free

If you see any of these ingredients on the label, don’t purchase for these reasons:

Fragrance – contains Phthalates, which are potent hormone disruptors.
Parabens – are preservatives linked to cancers.
Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) are skin irritants and increase the rate at which other chemicals are absorbed into the skin.
